Fans of the original series would have to be disappointed, but with the introduction of some interesting story lines, and edgier characters, it could have a future in series format. Shaky camera/quick cutting used to simulate any real action scenes (crossing rivers etc.) Predictable, and inoffensive. An encounter with American Indians promised to be the first potentially engaging scene, but was interrupted by "TO BE CONTINUED" - (sorry !). Very little tension or character depth beyond "good, nice people". Some very corny dialog such as when they start out for Kansas in their wagon (in those days, quite possibly their last meeting) and Ma's father says to his departing "girls" "You have your mother's eyes". I saw the first 1.5 hours via a "no duplication" press release DVD.
